Comments about Enfamil® Tri-Vi-Sol® (Available with Iron):
My question is what type of caramel coloring is used ?
Current federal regulations allow four types of caramel coloring: two of which are made with ammonia: Caramel III and Caramel IV.
Caramel III is made with ammonia but not sulfites and Caramel IV is made with ammonia and sulfites. Both of these have been implicated in causing cancer in lab animals.
The label does not disclose which type is being used. I find this both unfortunate and suspicious. Even more so since the artificial color is completely unnecessary.
What type of Caramel food coloring is present in this product? The ingredients only list "caramel color".
Until I find out more I am returning the TriViSol we purchased. I'm not taking any chances with my baby.
Aside from my concern it seems to be a good product, our EBF baby eats it up no problem, but he's seen the last of it until I find out more about the above.
For full disclosure I am a medical doctor.

Comments about Enfamil® Tri-Vi-Sol® (Available with Iron):
We give these vitamins to our EBF son at the pediatrician's recommendation. I just wish they did not contain artificial coloring. He spits up a lot and the color stains. I realize the vitamins themselves may have some color but is it really necessary to add coloring?

Comments about Enfamil® Tri-Vi-Sol® (Available with Iron):
I started my son on it immediately after coming home from hospital. He takes it directly from the dropper and has no problem w/ it. He was breastfed until 20 months old and still enjoys it. I tried the Poly formula and he doesn't care for it, but loves the Tri. I give it to him before he takes his nighttime bottle and he sucks it down fast. I advise it to all my patients who ask about it.

We like it!
Got this as a sample from my OBGYN before my babe was born. Read up on ingredients and why it's necessary. I was shocked to find out that they can't get enough Vitamin D from BM. My babe wasnt thrilled by the taste at first but enjoys it now. I mix it in w his fruit or rice creal now. Not the best smelling and does stain but what vitamin smells or tastes great. Glad I've been using it almost since he was new and have recommended it to friends.

Merchant response: Hi this is Karen! We do not advocate the unnecessary or excessive use of artificial colorings in our vitamin products. Adding a coloring ingredient improves the appearance of the vitamins. We would not expect our vitamins to cause permanent stains on clothing; however, it is possible that staining may occur if your baby spits up after the vitamins have mixed with saliva and gastric juices. Becky, we do not recommend a specific treatment for stain removal from clothing because the treatment may vary based on the type of fabric or detergent that you use. However, it is best to treat the stain as quickly as possible to avoid permanent staining.
