Monitoring Exercise Intesity:
- "Listen to your body" and "Respond appropriately"
- Slow down if you feel tired
- Put a little pep in your step if you have energy
If I'm talking to a patient who prior to pregnancy exercised on a regular basis and had very targeted goals for her to achieve and a structured exercise regimen, I go into a little bit more detail with her. For my patients who really don't seem to have a structured exercise program, the type of patient who comes in a couple times to the gym a week, doesn't really have a precise plan that she follows. In that instance, I basically let her body be her own guide, and if it hurts or if she feels like she's overexerting herself, I tell her back off.
