A grocery store is a wonderful place to introduce your child to language concepts. When you take your child to the grocery store, talk to your child about what you are buying. Show your child the oranges, the apples, the box of cereal, etc. Talk to your child about what you are doing.
Play 'Hide and Seek' with toys today! Gather together five of your child's favorite toys. Place your child on a blanket. Hide the five toys under another blanket. Pull out one toy at a time. Say, "I found the big red ball!" Put it back under the blanket. "Where did the ball go?" Pull it out again. "Here is the big red ball!" Repeat the activity with other toys. See if your child can find the toys.
Children love to play with blocks! Set up a corner in your child's playroom as the 'Block Corner.' Select a large plastic container for the blocks. Put it next to your child. Take a set of wooden blocks and begin to drop them into the container, one by one. Show your child how to dump them out and start all over again.
Have fun introducing the concept of 'empty' and 'full' with your child today! Take two plastic containers. Fill one with cotton balls. Sit down in front of your child. Dump the cotton balls into the empty container. Show your child the empty container and say, "Empty". Dump the cotton balls back into the container. Show the child the container and say, "Full". This game is fun to repeat. Use the words 'empty' and 'full' frequently to reinforce the concept.
